About Fondation Autisme
Fondation Autisme is a research-supporting foundation whose vision is to transform the care of autism, primarily on the medical level, but also in the educational sphere.
Founded in 2012 by parents of autistic individuals, Fondation Autisme supports research in fields likely to have a positive and significant impact on autistic people and their families. It also disseminates the most advanced scientific and medical knowledge.
In addition, Fondation Autisme provides support to non-profit organizations working on behalf of autistic individuals, in line with best-practice recommendations.
The founders of Fondation Autisme also created and developed Agir et Vivre l’Autisme (a non-profit network of pioneering institutions for autistic individuals in France) and Institut de l’Autisme (a training organization that promotes best practices in care, notably in ABA, “Applied Behavioral Analysis”). They also contribute to governmental efforts to transform public policies concerning autism.
Research priorities
Fondation Autisme proposes an etiological model that may explain most autism spectrum disorders:
On the basis of genetic susceptibility, autism may be triggered by an immune and/or toxicological event occurring before or after birth, and subsequently worsened by microbial infections.
This etiological model is, for the moment, only a working hypothesis that must be confirmed through scientific studies. Fondation Autisme supports highly targeted research projects aimed at providing scientific evidence for hypotheses emerging from medical practice. The main disciplines involved are immunology, toxicology, and infectiology.
